Fitness

The first day I stepped into a gym it was horrible. I would go down to do one push up and couldn’t get back up, I would run on the treadmill and after 45 seconds my calves would burn so badly I wanted to cry, I was so out of breath I almost passed out. But I never quit I just kept pushing.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), physical fitness is defined as ‘the ability to carry out daily tasks with vigor and alertness, without undue fatigue, and with ample energy to enjoy leisure-time pursuits and respond to emergencies.’ Based on this definition, fitness involves everything from getting out of bed to hiking to performing CPR.

There are many components to fitness here are 5:

  • Cardiovascular
  • Muscle-power, endurance, strength
  • Flexibility
  • Balance
  • Speed

I mixed my workouts with classes at the gym, I found them very beneficial because it teaches you posture, and form, there are also other members in those classes that can relate to your because everyone is at a different level of fitness I found it to be a great support system.

Once I built enough confidence I started to use the free weights, you know those machines throughout the sides and center of the gym. I started very light and every day I would focus on a different body part to work on, with reps and sets for each exercise I did. This allows the body part you worked the day before to have rest days’ witch is another very important factor to fitness.

Every month I got stronger, faster and the results slowly became more clear.
